This is a magically hand painted Bavaria Dresser Tray which is hand dated '81 and signed by the phenomenally talented American floral artist: Alzorra. It is a very delicately rendered china painting of carnations, upon a mint green and soft white background wash of color, highlighted with a Roman Gold edge and elegantly detailed gold scroll work. The fluffy tissue-like petals of the flowers contain rubies and pinks, whites and creamy yellows which deepen to amber in the heart of each white bloom. The realistic long thin carnation foliage is china painted in varied shades of mellow turquoise... a stunning effect. Please note the artist's wispy pewter shadow leaves which add perspective visually lifting the spray of flowers off the porcelain (see top center) and her clever use of silver gray or pewter tones behind the pink and white blossoms which very effectively emphasizes or dramatizes the colors and shapes of her flowers. Special notice should be given to the whimsical way in which the artist created a solid flag of mint green color in the upper left hand corner of this tray. The gracefully arched left-bending stem acts as a defining edge to the mint green flag of color above it. It is a fascinating effect which magically grounds the painting and reflects the thoroughly original style and genius of this very fine 20th Century American porcelain artist.
